Today saw two Bromley teams in. Our 3rds had to concede their game due to unavailability of players.
First up our seconds travelled to Millwall to take on Supernova 4 who are currently second in the league. The team had a few changes with the inclusion of a 3rd team player and a cameo from the coach. We had a game plan and as with most good plans it went out the window on the first ten minutes when Supernova took a 3-0 lead. That spurred the team into action and the comeback was on. Both sections dug deep and goal by goal hauled ourselves back into the game making it to half time with a slender 5-4 lead. We were by far the happier of the two teams and were beginning to believe we could do this.
We pushed hard in attack and showed real courage in defence and managed to pull three goals ahead but supernova were determined to get back into the game but we held out and won 9-7. I’m tempted to pick out individual players for praise but I think every player stepped up to the plate and deserve credit for this win. We finished the day level on points with the 3rd team. In the last few weeks we have beaten the top two teams and look forward to playing Highbury next weekend.
We had a very nice compliment at the end of the game when one of the Supernova complimented the club on how we have developed this group of youngsters.
Our second game was a tough encounter with local rivals Croydon 1 in the London regional league. Last week we beat Croydon 2 but this was a different challenge altogether. Our pre-match team take was about individual battles and competing. The first half was a revelation, we competed in every area and were within two goals. Second half saw the lead stretched by Croydon but this was about the performance not the result. Despite great goals from Bromley, Croydon pulled ahead and won by 8 in the end. We showed how far we’ve come as a club in recent years and we are building an exciting future for the club. Very proud coaches and parents today, well done teams.
