Four games to report on this week.
Our first and second teams had away games against Supernova 1 and Croydon 3 respectively. The 1sts made the journey to Millwall with even more youth players than normal for their opening game of the season. The first 10 minutes gave rise to optimism as we pushed Supernova hard keeping the score line close. However errors began to creep into the game and missed opportunities gave us a mountain to climb going into the break. The second half played out in a similar way and errors cost us dearly. That said we had many chances that we didn’t take so positives to take from the game. L 28-11.
Our second team travelled the short distance to Royal Russell school to take on Croydon 3. This was our second game in London league 2. The form book suggested this would be a tough game. It was great to have debutant Becky in the team. As with last week Croydon got out of the blocks quicker and took a lead we found to difficult to claw back. That said we did amazingly well and showed real toughness and skill. The team was coached by Thomas Young who played 1st team before racing back to Croydon, thanks for that Thomas. We lost by six goals but again showed we can compete in this higher league. Very well done to Becky who was amazing in her first game and Martha who played really well. Also big thanks to Marika for stepping in to help.
So two defeats for the seniors, could our juniors do any better in kent? First up our very young under 11s playing in their first game of the season with some players playing their first ever game. Natalie had worked very hard with this you group to prepare them. Kian captained the team and led by example with some great defending. The whole team played fantastically well and with 3 great goals we won our opening game though the result was less important than the performance. Well done team and especially Millie on her first game very well done. L 14-8
Last up our u13s were scheduled to play Kingfisher’s 2nd team. We made some changes this week to give other squad players a game as we have a large group of very good players. We wanted to capitalise on last week’s fine performance. We looked impressive again though our passing wasn’t as crisp as last week. That said we won by a bigger margin than last week. Another great performance and plenty to work on at training on Friday. Sadly Nicole who made the journey wasn’t well enough to take play, we hope you feel better today and look forward to seeing you play soon! W 5-0
