Today we had 3 teams in action. Our 2nds and 3rds travelled to East London in the London league and our u9s played in the Kent league.so it was a road trip in our usual minibus.
Our 3rds set off knowing whatever the outcome they’d not register any points as we had to play a friendly as we were missing players and had to play more guest players than legally aloud. That said the majority of our team were our youth players with an average age of 14.
Although a friendly we were determined to show how good our young players really are. I was so proud to see these youngsters stand up and show how good they were against a tough Highbury korfball team.
Some absolutely amazing performances that drew as much applause from the watching Highbury Korfball Club players as it did the Bromley players. The final result was 13-11 to Bromley but will show as a 10-0 loss.
Next up our 2nds looking to keep up their winning ways. They were missing Ed, Ben and Josh but had a few reasonable replacements including a cameo from Nathan back for the week from Italy.
First five minutes were a little wobbly and Highbury managed to take a goal lead forcing us to have a rethink but before any changes followed things settled down and we got into our stride. I watched this game with immense pride as is coached every player from child to youth and into seniors. There was some breath taking play and great passing and movement in evidence and Highbury 4 played their part in a great game played in a fantastic spirit. There was nothing between the teams at half time and we knew we’d have to up our game in the second half if we were going to take anything from the game. We really dug deep and pushed hard to pull ahead and despite Highbury upping their game we pulled ahead and saw the game out 9-12. This was without doubt the hardest game we’ve played this season and were delighted to leaving with both teams winning. Our 2nds are tied on points with two other teams on points in second place though behind on goal difference. Games did come at a cost to both clubs with 3 ankle injuries and one hand injuries. Hopefully Daniel and Georgia make a full recovery.
