W/E 24th November 2019 – Match Reports

So two games and a busy afternoon of coach development to report on this week.

Our first team kicked things off with a trip to top of the league Bec 2. The opposition like ourselves were unbeaten prior to today and had been averaging 22 goals a game. . We came to this game under no pressure as the underdogs. The first half was a tough battle with both teams defences stifling the other. Bec scored first with two unanswered goals but we responded and both teams traded goals but missed chances. Bec went into the break 2 goals (6-4) up in a low scoring half.

The second half kicked off and Bec were quick out of the blocks scoring 3 unanswered goals and took a 9-4 leadyou might have thought that would have been it but we are a tougher team that we have been in the past and our big players stepped up and pulled the score back to a very creditable 15-13. Although a loss we pushed the probable league winners very hard.

Next up our 2nd team who welcomed South London Mitcham to Langley. The majority of our 2nd team were young teenagers and today we had 2 debutants in the team.

The team talk identified a score of 12 or above should win the game. We got off to a good start against a strong and committed and well drilled team. We scored a few unanswered goals but South London Mitcham responded. We took a lead into half time. We were not going to be complacent though and prepared for the inevitable onslaught in the second half. We did manage to take a 5 goal lead but they came back strong and a number of penalties helped them out. It got tense when they got to within a goal but we weren’t to be denied. An excellent result against a good team. Well done team, especially Adam and Liv who played really well in their first game.

We finished the afternoon with a development session for 17 coaches and volunteers led by senior coach Dave Butters. It was a great afternoon with sessions on coaching, safeguarding by our club lead Kathryn and closing session on our junior coaching philosophy. Thanks to everyone who made the afternoon possible including providing drinks and snacks for the participants.

Futures looking good for BKC
