Our first team took on league leaders Trojans in what was definitely “a game of two halves”. The first started off as a bit horror show as Trojans dominated proceedings and took what would became an unassailable lead. In recent games we have been guilty of making the oppositions job easier with unnecessary turnovers and we were quite obliging yesterday as well. In this league against top teams you get punished when you give the ball away and players like Neala Brennan who had earlier played in Trojans demolition of Cambridge Tigers in the national league joined the game to challenge our 16 year old Katie.
So going into half time it looked like a mountain to climb but we have character in our club and came out determined improve on our first half. We really stepped up and began to play to our usual standard. We matched Trojans for scores in the 2nd half.
Next up a no less challenging prospect for our second team in unbeaten Nomads 3. They’d beaten the league leaders in their 7 game unbeaten run. We had youth and considerable talent on our side. We began brightly and scored first but Nomads came back and we traded goals up to half time by which we had a slender lead. In the second half we went out and pushed hard though the experience of the Nomads players for a time held the line. We weren’t however to be denied and scored from all over the pitch to take the points in an amazing game. With players as young as 13 we have beaten the top two teams in this adult league and shown what’s possible when you invest in youth development. Every player contributed time this win. We are so proud of you guys.
