A hectic days korfball at Bromley KC with 5 scheduled games to play, 2 junior and 3 senior.
Our u9s travelled to Kent to play Kingfisher. The word is they played well but struggled at times as Kingfisher defended very well. Despite that we managed to win 5-0. Well played team.
Our second junior fixture should have seen our u11s taken on tornadoes but they conceded the game. That was a shame as it would have been nice to see if the teams improvement in the second half of the last meeting continued.
Our three senior teams played their penultimate home games starting with our 3rds. This was always going to be a tough game and was more about the experience. The opposition were league leaders Bec 5. Three of the four Bromley girls had never played a team of this standard. They did extremely well and despite loosing scored 5 excellent goals. A great experience for the team.
Next our first team who took on local rivals Croydon 2 in the London regional league. Both teams are fighting for their regional league survival. The game started well for Croydon who looked like they meant business and pressed hard causing several turnovers and getting off the mark first. It didn’t get any better for Bromley in the next 10 minutes going 7-2 down. Finally our young team began to play like the team we know they are and in the next 10 minutes scored 5 goals unanswered and at half time went in all square. The momentum continued in The second half as we pulled away 9-7 but Croydon responded and pulled it back to 9-9. Both teams battled hard in a gritty second half and with 5 minutes left it was again all square. But our first team are a tough bunch and scored twice more to win an amazing fame 15-17 against a Croydon team who looked a little shell shocked. We done team truly fantastic result.
Last up our 2nd team who faced supernova 5. We were missing Josh, Martha and phoebe but Tor and Grace stepped up to cover. This was another tough game that was really tight mid way through the half when we began to score and put a little daylight between us. In the second half supernova began to claw back our lead so a little coaching intervention was required to steady the ship and we held our for a decent 12-9 win taking the team up to 4th in the league.
Great day all round and all the players were a credit to the club. Happy days.
