So two games played today, our seniors faced tough opposition in Highbury 2 and Bec 3 LKA 2 league leaders.
So first up our 1sts threw off against Highbury, we started well enough but missed some short range shots and began to give the ball away cheaply. We hoped this wouldn’t again come back to haunt us later. So the first half was as tight as we anticipated with little between the teams.. Our defence was working well but our attack wasn’t quite firing on all cylinders. There was nothing between the teams at half time and the team wrote itself: cut out the turnovers and stop trying to force things. Sadly though we didn’t take that on board and the second half proved frustrating with Highbury taking a 3 goal lead but like the recent Bec game we fought back to within a goal but couldn’t quite find that last goal. To lose by one goal to a team who will be competing for the league is an amazing step forward for the club.
Next up our 2nds facing as tough a prospect as the 1sts in Bec 2 the current LKA 2 league leaders.
Bec clearly had a win in mind as they brought a strong team. Our team talk was simple no pressure just go out there and play with pride..
Having looked at Bec’s stats we thought 12 goals might be enough to win the game..
At the last minute we lost our sub Emily who we knew we’d need as one of players had to leave early but thanks to our amazing team manager Nadia we got Lucie to come along at short notice.
So the game began well and was as tough as we thought but we were the early pace setters. We matched Bec physically and the quality of our young team shone through. We had new recruit Tiggy playing her first ever senior game and she smashed it. It was a close half and nothing between the teams at half time. Second half was just as tight but we played with maturity beyond our years (average age of team today 16 and a half). We drew penalties that were clinically despatched and gave little away. With a few minutes to go we were two up but in our enthusiasm to score more let Bec back into the game but we held out for a 14-13:win. A remarkable result from such a young team and an amazing performance from every player. 5 goals for josh, 1 for Ella, 4 for Teo, 1 for Mark and a hatrick for Tiggy on her Senior debut.
What an amazing game and result couldnt be more proud of everyone today. What a great team and such potential for the future.
