Wow what an end to this year’s junior korfball season. Having won the Kent league our U11s joined the party in Sittingbourne for the Kent finals day. We’d made it to the kent cup final and were excited about the possibilities. The players were Elisa (c), Alexa, Joe, Ollie, Jacob, Amelia, Vishalini, Kushala, Kieron and Caleb.
We faced Bearsted for the umpteenth time this season. We’d worked on many areas of our game in the build up to today. We got off to a flyer and scored two unanswered goals, Bearsted pulled one back and then we pulled away to 3-1, then 4-1. Bearsted got a grip of their game and pulled it back to 4-4, we gave them a little help by giving the ball away cheaply. We needed a time out to put things right. again we pulled away but again they pegged us back and so it went right up to the last minute. minutes on the clock and we were 2 up and then they scored, a minute to go and we were a goal up and again the ball was turned over but a great interception by Keiron gave us back the ball and we saw the last seconds out to win 8-7.
We had to dig deep to win the game as you should in a county cup final, great resilience, great teamwork and great support. The measure of a good team is when you win even when you haven’t played as well as you can and that’s how today went. a great end to the season as Kent league and cup champions. well done to you all you contributed to this great outcome. very proud of you all and well done Natalie who coached this group all season.
